what is the meaning of this painting

This piece doesn't have so much meaning as it does face value. A few of Cezanne's works were regarded as Formalist pieces. This one would be a good example of a Formalist piece because of its non-descriptive, non-academic approach to form. The blocky colour use emphasizes the surface of the canvas, not so much the spacial illusion. Very nice Formalist piece...
